App Privacy Policy

The short version
Everything you record in Flarelight stays on your device. We can't see it. Your check-ins, flares, symptoms, notes and photos are stored in the app's own storage on your phone and are not sent to us or to anyone else.
Who we are
Flarelight, 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX Contact: hello@flarelight.app
Registered with the UK Information Commissioner's Office. We are based in the United Kingdom. UK data protection law applies to us wherever you live. If you are in the United States, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy sets out additional rights you may have.
What the app stores on your device
- Daily check-in entries: energy, pain, mood and sleep ratings, and how long you slept
- Flare entries: dates, duration, severity, symptoms, and any notes you add
- Rash entries, including any photographs you choose to take or attach
- Appointments, medications and reminders you enter
- Notes and goals you write for the appointment preparation feature
Photographs
Photographs you add stay in the app's storage on your device. They are not uploaded anywhere, they are not added to your phone's main photo library unless you put them there yourself, and we have no way of seeing them. If you delete a photo in the app, it is removed from the app's storage.
What we receive
Nothing you log. We do not operate a server that receives your health information, and the app has no accounts or logins.
Separately from anything you log:
- App stores. If you buy a subscription, Apple or Google handles the payment. They tell us that a purchase happened and give us anonymous aggregate sales data. We never see your card details, and they do not tell us what you have recorded in the app.
- Crash diagnostics. If the app crashes, Apple and Google provide us with standard crash reports: device model, operating system version, and the technical details of the failure. These do not contain anything you have logged. We cannot identify you from them, though Apple and Google handle them under their own terms.
- Emails you send us. If you contact support, we hold your email and your message.
What the app does with your information
Flarelight displays what you have recorded. The calendar shows your entries by date. The Insights screen shows relationships between entries you have logged — for example, showing your sleep ratings alongside the days you recorded a flare. The appointment report gathers your entries from a period you choose into a document you can share with your clinician.
Flarelight does not diagnose anything, does not predict anything, and does not identify the causes of your symptoms. It shows you your own records.
Backups — please read this
Because your data is stored on your device, it is only as safe as your device. If your phone's system backup is switched on (iCloud Backup on iPhone, or Android's backup service), your Flarelight data will usually be included, and will usually restore if you set up a new phone. That backup is handled by Apple or Google under their terms, not ours. We still can't see it.
If backup is switched off, your data is not backed up anywhere. If you lose, break, reset or wipe your phone, it is gone and we cannot recover it.
If you delete the app, your data is removed from your phone. If a device backup exists, a copy may remain in that backup until it is overwritten — that is controlled by Apple or Google, not by us, and we cannot delete it for you.
We recommend checking that your device backup is switched on, and using the export feature to keep your own copy of anything important.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. We do not share it for advertising. There is no advertising in the app, and no third-party advertising trackers or analytics SDKs.
Your rights
Because your health information is held on your device and not by us, you already have direct control over it: you can view, edit, export and delete any entry inside the app, and deleting the app removes it from your phone.
For the limited information we do hold — support emails and purchase records from the app stores — you can ask us for a copy, or ask us to correct or delete it, at hello@flarelight.app We'll respond within one month.
Complaints
UK: the Information Commissioner's Office, ico.org.uk, 0303 123 1113.
US: your state Attorney General's office. Washington residents can complain at atg.wa.gov.
Elsewhere: your national data protection authority.
Children
Flarelight is for adults. It is not intended for anyone under 18 and we ask that under-18s do not use it.
Changes
If we change how the app handles your information — in particular if we introduce optional cloud backup or accounts in future — we will update this policy, change the date above, and tell you inside the app before the change takes effect.
If a change means your information would leave your device, we will ask you to opt in first. It will not happen automatically.
